LLS Man and Woman of the Year 2016 Kickoff
We’re so honored to have the amazing opportunity to be the photographer for and work with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and its supporters for their Man and Woman of the Year 2016 event kickoff! It was great meeting and seeing all of these people who are dedicated to working hard for such a noble cause. Thank you to everyone for all your donations and time. We would like to take this time to highlight the candidates and boy and girl of the year for the 2016 Man and Woman of the Year campaign:
Meet the Boy and Girl of the Year
Benjamin Byers
Benjamin is the Boy of the Year. In the winter of 2010 Benjamin became ill several times within a few months. His parents believed it was nothing serious as it was winter time but one day he woke up with a limp. On February 3rd, after a trip to the pediatrician’s office, it was confirmed and he was diagnosed with leukemia. Benjamin immediately went to the Duke Children’s Hospital for multiple transfusions and further tests. Since being diagnosed, he has undergone muscular leg injections, over 35 spinals, and numerous chemotherapy. Taking everything in stride, it’s wonderful to know that today, at the age of 8, Benjamin is in remission!
Emma Woodard
Emma is the Girl of the Year. She began having leg pain and asking to be held more frequently when she was two and a half. Her parents believed she just had allergies but she began running a fever a week later. After a week, pediatricians decided to run more tests and at 11 PM her parents received the call to bring to the ER at UNC Hospital. It was there that after a marrow biopsy, Emma was diagnosed with leukemia. After two and a half years of medications, port-infused chemotherapy, and monthly spinal taps, Emma is now in remission!
